Recently completed jobs include the Copper Dog and the Quaich Bar at The Craigellachie Hotel.

The Copper Dog

Previously this space had been the dining room and was very dark and quite dingy we stripped it back we discovered some lovely stone work and we simply restored the stone walls and wooden floors and painted the concrete floors. We also created walls lined with reclaimed whisky vat timbers which I think gives a traditional but homely feel to the bar. The idea was to make it look like it was a bar that had evolved and not one that had been designed.

The Copper Dog, mischievously named after the cylinders distillery workers used to pilfer whisky from, also has a bar which is made of copper, with the front of the bar looking like it is made from whisky vats, and the lamps are also copper pan lamps. The furniture was sourced from auction rooms, and much of it looks like it was made for the pub. Guests can now see into the kitchen, and can savour the tempting smells of the food, while large rugs add warmth to the bar.

The Quaich Bar, Craigellachie

The Quaich has a long and coveted history, including the world famous malt whisky club of the same name and a reputation for having over 750 bottles of single malt whisky on its shelves. The client’s brief was to create a comfortable but elegant bar where their customers could sit on the balcony and enjoy the view in the summer or on a winters’ day sit by the open fire while enjoying a dram with friends.

Our design and build team worked hand in hand with owner Piers Adam. We designed and hand-crafted the room which is lined with up-lit, bespoke cabinets and panelling crafted from whisky vat timbers reclaimed from a Diageo Bond House.

For the design of the bar, inspiration was taken from materials traditionally used to make quaichs and has been built using wood and silver. The bar has been hand-crafted from oak and features a silver band measuring 16ft in length designed by renowned jewellery designer Stephen Webster and handmade by Hamilton & Inches of Edinburgh.
